“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” — Helen Keller

There are over 300 million blind and visually impaired people worldwide, and they face significant challenges and hardships. Many live in poverty and resource-limited environments, unable to access basic medical services and rehabilitation support. For these individuals, blindness is not only a physical disability but also exacerbates social isolation and economic hardship.

In some developing countries, blind people often cannot receive an education, find employment, or even complete basic daily tasks such as eating, dressing, or traveling. Due to the lack of appropriate assistive tools and technologies, their independence and self-esteem are severely affected.

In this context, blind people around the world are not only facing the challenges of blindness itself but are also enduring enormous mental and emotional pressure. They yearn for the compassion and support of society, particularly opportunities for education and vocational training, so they can have a fairer life and a brighter future.

Welcome to the Movement

We advance the lives of our members and all blind people in the United States. The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination, and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.
